What 4Par was Searching for

The founders of 4Par had envisioned an app that would serve golf enthusiasts by helping them develop their skills indoors. The idea for this was proposed when they discovered that there was no app available that could help you work on your short game and monitor and analyze your progress as a player.

The idea was to build an app that would allow you to use real golfing equipment to hone your skills. This would need to involve you selecting a suitable flat surface on which the app could mark targets in the shape of a series of rings at certain ranges.

4Par founders envisioned this scenario so users could practice their putting and chipping skills, and also compete against family and friends, and measure their progress.

What Cubix Set out to Build

Cubix was keen to partner with 4Par to build this helpful and entertaining app. 4Par seemed like the perfect virtual golfing experience that they could create for golfers.

So once the direction of the envisioned game was understood, Cubix was keen to get started. The game would be built to ensure a user-friendly experience, wherein gameplay begins as a user clicks the Start button.

Upon tapping on the app and going through the starting procedure, a user’s smartphone automatically identifies the holes when the front-facing camera is pointed at a suitably flat surface. Users see rings appear on their screens, which are produced through augmented reality technology.

Once these rings are on screen, a user may select the ‘ready’ or the ‘reset’ hole option. If you select the ‘ready’ hole, you can hit three balls.

When choosing the ‘reset’ hole, the camera automatically re-calibrates and identifies the distances with its augmented reality function, and the target rings are generated.

The camera shuts down, and a countdown (3 seconds) starts. As the countdown finishes, the game clock starts ticking for sixty seconds against a plain background.

Next, you strike the three balls one at a time. After that, the scores are shown on your screen, and the camera is activated.

You can manually gauge the position of the balls by facing the camera at their vicinity (where the balls also are), thereby, triggering the AR rings. Your score will be directly proportionate to the total score of the number of balls within the vicinity of each ring.

Finally, a screen with options to either play again, quit, or return to the main menu is shown.

The Delivery

Cubix worked on the design and developmental aspects of the game after thoroughly understanding the concept. The project managers at Cubix frequently engaged with the client to deliver regular updates concerning the project and to ensure that all stakeholders were on the same page throughout the app’s development.

Cubix delivered the project within the deadline, and the game is now live. Further enhancements are being made to the app to make it more compact, enticing, and fun.

The collaboration between Cubix and 4Par has brought to fruition an innovative augmented reality-based app that lets you work and improve your golf game.
